HERO OR VILLIAN?
The misunderstood & misconceived in Greek Mythology
In my creative project, I'm digging into Greek mythology to flip the script on characters like the Minotaur, Medusa, and Hades. We've all heard the usual 'bad guy' stories, but there's way more to these characters than meets the eye. These iconic creatures, often depicted as inherently evil or malevolent, have been unfairly pigeonholed for decades.
This was visualised through the form of an informative poster, with a poker card design. I aim to capture the duality of these characters by using contrasting colors associated with 'good' and 'evil'. The background color, representing 'evil', is flipped with the character's color, symbolizing 'good'. For instance, if the background is green (commonly linked to evil), Medusa's head would be yellow (associated with goodness). This intentional color interplay underscores the notion that these characters embody both positive and negative qualities, and one aspect cannot exist without the other.
The explanation on the back side of the card could be signified by the idea that many times we only see one side of whatever’s been showed to us, yet if we just flip the card to read on, we might get a deeper understanding of the individual. To help further visualize, I attempted to find drawings corelating back to whatever the characters’ stories have to tell.
